UNHCR Comments to the Revised Draft Concept of the State Migration Policy of Ukraine July 2008

“THANK GOD THERE IS NO WAR HERE BUT WHAT WILL HAPPEN TO US NEXT?”
This was a question of an Afghan refugee woman, interviewed by independent legal and socio-economic experts, who studied the situation of local integration of refugees in Belarus, Moldova and Ukraine. In the course of the study, carried out within the framework of the Soderkoping Process , around 300 interviews with refugees, NGOs and authorities had been conducted in the three countries.

The seminar was initiated in recognition of a number of weaknesses in the system of protection of unaccompanied asylum-seeking children in Ukraine. It was organised by the State Committee for Nationalities and Religions (SCNR) and the Regional Representation for the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees in Belarus, Moldova and Ukraine (UNHCR), together with support from UNHCR partners ROKADA, HIAS, and Vinnitsa Human Rights Group.

New UNHCR PI Initiative in Belarus.
Upon initiative of UNHCR Office in Belarus, the Belarusian Post Office (RUP “Belpochta”) accepted the proposal to place one of the proposed designs on the envelopes available for general public at post offices in the country.
